How to use our exercises to prepare for the B1 exam

This site has more material than it might look like at first glance โ€” this guide explains what's where and in what order it's most useful to use it.

What's here

Two full practice exams that follow the official four-part structure and scoring โ€” /en/exam. Each one includes all four parts: writing, listening, reading, speaking.

Plus three separate training modules that let you practise one skill at a time, rather than a whole exam:

  • Picture description โ€” describe pictures in Estonian, get AI feedback right away.
  • Writing โ€” notices, invitations, letters, stories.
  • Monologues โ€” oral answers on various topics.

Two different ways to use it โ€” and when to use each

The training modules are for learning. Use them when you want to practise one specific skill with no time limit, try different approaches, and get feedback on each attempt separately. This is where making mistakes is cheap.

The full practice exams are for testing. Use them when you want to know where you actually stand โ€” doing all four parts in a row, against the clock, exactly as in the real exam. This is where you test your actual readiness, not just one skill.

A common mistake is doing only full practice exams without the training modules โ€” that way you don't get the specific feedback on what exactly to fix. And the opposite mistake is doing only the training modules and never a full timed test โ€” that way you don't know if you're ready for the real format, where all four parts wear you down in sequence.

Reading the AI evaluation

When you get an AI evaluation in the writing or speaking exercises, it's learning feedback, not an official exam result. Read the explanation next to the score, not just the number โ€” the explanation tells you what worked and what to fix, and that's more useful than a number.

Suggested order

  1. Do one full practice exam right at the start, with no preparation โ€” this shows you where you're starting from, not where you'd like to start from.
  2. Use that result to decide which training modules you need most.
  3. Follow the 8-week study plan, which spreads those modules across four weeks before the final test week.
  4. Do a second full practice exam in week eight and compare the result with the first.

This site is not Harno

All exercises follow the official structure and scoring, but this is an independent, free practice platform โ€” not Harno or EIS. Official registration only happens through eis.harno.ee.
